Dr. Lorena Lopez

Lorena Lopez is Lecturer of the Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2012, a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Sciences in 2013, and Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. From 2013-2014 she interned at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Quentin Mease Community Hospital in Houston Texas, University Hospital in San Antonio Texas, and South Texas Rehabilitation Hospital in Brownsville Texas, where she diagnosed and treated patients of all ages with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular conditions. During her graduate studies, she collaborated with graduate professors and students to conduct a research project dealing with education-ambiguity and systems thinking. The research gained recognition and was presented at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting in February 2015. Her interests are in the advancement of health/biomedical science and physical therapy education. In spring 2015, she joined UT Rio Grande Valley and since has taught BMED Integrated Body Systems I - V, BMED Gross Anatomy, BMED Introduction to Cell Biology, BMED Introduction to Medical Neuroscience, BMED Introduction to Biomedical Science I and II Lab, BMED Molecules, Cells, and Tissues, BMED Pathophysiology, and HPRS Patient Education in Health Sciences courses. From 2015 to present date she works on the development and redesign of hybrid biomedical science courses. Moreover, she currently serves as a committee member of the doctoral of physical therapy program development at UT Rio Grande Valley.
