Dr. Jameela Banu

I got my Ph.D. in biochemical parasitology from The University of Madras in India. After my Ph.D. I moved to Japan where I was a postdoctoral trainee at NILR, Tokyo Japan. There I trained in molecular biology of Mycobacterium leprae. My post doctoral experience at the UT Health Science Center was in the molecular and physiological basis of preeclampsia (hypertension in pregnancy); oxygen toxicity in lung tissue of normal and transferrin knock out mice. In 1997, I joined Dr. Kalu‘s group to study bone metabolism in relation to post menopause and aging. I continue my research in bone metabolism and I also teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
