Dr. Isela Almaguer

Dr. Isela Almaguer is a Professor and a Houston Endowed Chair in Education in the Department of Bilingual and Literacy Studies in the College of Education and P-16 Integration at UTRGV. Her research interests include bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism across various cultures, literacy development and reading achievement for emergent bilinguals in dual language contexts, and academic and linguistic proficiency development across content areas. Additionally, her research extends to second language learning in dual and bilingual settings and the role of culture as an asset to mediate learning in academic and community-based spaces.
